[ OKAY, SO WHAT'S A NEWTYPE? ]
The Basic Newtype Theory: As humanity expands into space, all latent abilities will blossom in order to adapt to the great void and mankind will then be able to understand each other without misconceptions.

[ BUT WHAT DOES THAT REALLY MEAN? ]
Essentially, a Newtype is the next stage of human evolution as it relates to living in space. His spacial awareness is so acute as to act as a sixth sense, so Banagher exhibits vaguely "psychic" qualities — mostly something like precognitive empathy. This means that Banagher is sensitive not necessarily to the actions of others, but to the intent behind said actions, especially as they pertain to him. For example, think something hard enough at him, and he'll probably be able to sense it. Think, "Hey I'm going to go punch that kid's face in!" and he'll probably be able to sense it in enough time to try and prevent it. Think, "Hey I'm going to punch this other guy's face in!" and he likes Other Guy, he can try to help them avoid it, or submit his own face for punching, etc., etc. (Heavy emphasis on "try".) So on and so forth. This is a mostly useless skill outside of his Gundam, but important for other like-minded characters, or those who don't take kindly to relentless do-gooders getting a potential read on their emotions.

[ NO BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR ME? ]
If you'd like CR with Banagher, it'd help me out to know how to approach your characters with his powers! Newtypes carry a pretty big stigma in his canon, so he's a bit dodgy about it and likely won't speak up about his ability unless confronted or asked by someone he trusts. On the other side of the coin, Banagher is pretty forthright, and attempts to make any judgment on someone on his own merit, outside of the things he senses. So morally grays and villains and people with generally dark brains don't need to worry about him pulling the LOOK AT HOW EVIL SO-AND-SO IS stunt. It is a latent ability, so it's sort of always passively running — however, I'm always more concerned with the comfort of who I'm playing with, and can definitely run a workaround for it if you'd rather not have him notice anything at all, or only bits and pieces.

CHARACTER | name, [personal profile] journal
CANON | canon
CAN HE SENSE THINGS FROM YOUR CHARACTER | Be as sparse or detailed as you'd like, for either yes or no answers! For nos, you can mention if a character has psychic blocking or if you'd rather find a workaround. For the yeses out there, feel free to specify if you'd rather us hash something out oocly first or if you're alright with my taking cues from introspective prose or bracket text! Most often, I will err on the side of caution when it comes to picking up on things and go with the bare minimum, unless stated otherwise or if it's handy for cultivating some kind of plot or CR we've talked about. It'd also be helpful to state whether or not Banagher is allowed to outwardly react (whether by voicing or acting on) to the things he senses with your character.
WHAT CAN HE SENSE | Can also be as sparse or detailed as you'd like! From someone's basic "aura" or energy to the more complex things, such as true intent, powers, inner emotions and thoughts and/or things characters may lie about and try to hide from others. If you'd like to gradually develop what he can sense via CR, that's all good with me too! Anything goes. Note: you can also mention limitations on what he can sense from characters who may be putting up fronts.
ANYTHING ELSE | What it says on the tin!

(THIS POST WILL BE UPDATED WHEN HE COMES BACK INTO POSSESSION OF THE UNICORN GUNDAM. BECAUSE THAT'S A DOOZY.)

CHARACTER | Sephiroth, [personal profile] youwillrot
CANON | Final Fantasy VII (video game)
CAN HE SENSE THINGS FROM YOUR CHARACTER | Definitely! In fact, it would make even less sense (heh) for him not to. It's emphasized repeatedly throughout his canon that Sephiroth survives on the strength of his will alone. He pretty much radiates this strength and extreme self-assurance at all times. You are free to take cues from my brackets for minor things; for anything that might be major, such as some sinister plot he's brewing, I'd prefer prior discussion. Otherwise, Banagher is more than welcome to react to what he finds.
WHAT CAN HE SENSE | First and foremost: darkness, and an undying resolve to survive. Nope, not kidding. Sephiroth's not a nice guy and has a lot of nasty feelings going on beneath the surface, the primary ones being violence, bitterness, and a hatred for living beings. It's basically like staring into an abyss, but if that abyss also had three heads and tons of teeth. Somewhere buried in that abyss is the shell of his former self, some scarce bit of light, but it's... well, scarce, and a long, long ways at the bottom. Sephiroth's an introspective creature by nature and has plenty of intricate thought processes going on—many of them relate to revenge, grudges, and an urge for destruction. Sound familiar? Have fun with that unwanted nostalgia bomb, Banagher.
ANYTHING ELSE | Prodding about his background as an experiment is bad news bears. Sephiroth will hurt him in a very unfun way, no questions asked. Sephiroth also has sensitivity to mental infiltration and will know almost immediately that Banagher's digging around. He won't like it, but that's fine because nobody cares what he thinks, the CDC's got him on a tight leash, and he'd be more curious than murderous. Probably. I'd really love to play around with all this, so feel free to PM/PP me with any further inquiries!
